Birch Plywood

Birch plywood is used for demanding tasks and for the durability it provides as a hard wood. Its excellent strength, stiffness and resistance to motion in inclement weather characterize birch plywood. It has high planar shear strength and impact resistance, which make it especially suitable for heavy-duty floor and wall structures. Birch plywood also has excellent surface hardness, and damage, wear-resistance over time.

Oak Plywood

Oak plywood is a cost-effective alternative to solid oak, and even more cost-effective than woods such as maple and cherry. Oak is a beautiful wood cherished by woodworkers for its strength and durability, as well as being a common choice for building amazing quality furniture. If you are planning a new woodworking project, oak is an excellent option to start with.

Maple Plywood

Maple plywood is white in color with a defined grain and is complemented when finished with a light or clear stain. The sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge, while the heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. The wood is generally straight-grained, but it can also occur as "curly," "fiddle back," and "birds-eye." Maple wood has high resistance to abrasion and wear. It also has good steam-bending properties, so that it can be malleable in some amounts.

Hardwood Plywood Grade

Plywood grades are (best to worst) A, B, C and D for face or front face. The back grades are (best to worst) 1, 2, 3, and 4. The Hardwood Plywood & Veneer Association publishes plywood-grading standards every year so that the people who work with these materials are able to determine the best product for any given job.

Plywood grades of A1, A2, B1, B2 are a good double-sided product and can be used for any project where both sides of the wood are going to be seen. The backside (number grade) does have a few more blemishes than the front naturally, although those can be mitigated depending on the effort spent in perfecting the wood.

A3, B3, C3 gradients are for plywood that will be seen from only one side. However, the backside must be clean in order to maintain the highest level of effectiveness in use, although there may be some stain or discoloration on the back, spliced veneer, and so on. One might use this material for the sides of a dresser, for drawer sides and shelving amongst other commonly used wood fixtures.

A4, B4, C4 are a one-side-good product for everyday use providing you do not need a woods that has a presentational front and back. The side you are not intending on using may have open knots, filled knots, bad veneer joints or seams that make it a less attractive option for use. This material will would work well for drawer bottoms, and similar projects.
